Sunday Ministry

Sunday School - 9:45 AM
Sunday Service - 11:00 AM

Waverly Road Presbyterian Church invitees you to participate in all its activities and to share in the spiritual growth and blessings that are received here.  As our motto says: "Love God, Love Others, Make Disciples."

Sunday School | 9:45 AM

Regarding children: All staff and volunteers who serve in Children and Family Ministry have completed an application and screening process, including criminal background checks. All infant, Preschool, and Student activities are conducted in a complete nut-free environment. We nurture children physically, emotionally, and spiritually in each one of our Sunday School classes. The children learn about God's love for them through their interactions with caregivers, Bible stories, songs, and age-appropriate fun activities designed just for them.

Infants (Caterpillar Room)

Located in the Caterpillar Room, which is open and staffed with loving caregivers on Sunday mornings from 9:30 AM until the end of the worship service. It is accessible through the main church entrance, located near the sanctuary. The staff provide consistency for the children and maintain our high standards of health and safety, as well as maintain a low teacher/child ratio.

Space is available for nursing mothers. Simply ask a staff member.

Pre-School (Godly Play Room)

For children ages three through Kindergarten. Located in the Godly Play Room 102

In this class we use a Montessori-based approach to learning Bible stories using special crafts and activities. The program is designed to enable young children to encounter God by using both their critical "gates" of interaction: play and language. Its intent is to invite children to experience God's presence as real and gracious.

Elementary

Each Sunday a scripture passage is presented. Children and leaders experience a series of activities designed to explore that passage and apply it to their lives. Relationships are built between the children and the leaders, who are committed to nurturing the faith journeys of our elementary age-children. We use a variety of teaching and group learning opportunities to accommodate different learning styles.

Middle School

Found on the second floor of the Education Wing, they use art, drama, games, and discussion while they both learn to understand God's word for their lives today and also become familiar with Biblical teachings. The Middle School activities are sponsored by Holston Presbytery Youth Ministry.

High School

High School lessons are led by one adult and one youth with a fun and engaging curriculum. Our goal for this class is to help prepare these individuals for life "in the real world."

Worship for Children

Infants

A nursery is available for children under the age of 3.

Pre-School and Elementary (Godly Play Room)

We value the presence of children in worship. Very young babies can remain with their parents or stay in our newly-renovated nursery. We keep special worship bags with art supplies that children may enjoy using during the service. There are also children’s bulletins that go along with our worship service. There’s usually a “Time with Children” during the service and afterwards. Children are welcome to stay with their parents or go to the nursery (up to age 3), and or participate in Godly Play (ages 3 through 3rd grade).

After the Time with Children during the worship service, preschoolers may go to the Godly Play classroom with the other children ages 3 years – 3rd grade. Godly Play provides a Montessori-based approach to learning Bible stories, with special crafts and activities. The program is designed to enable young children to encounter God by using both of their critical “gates” to knowing the world: play and language. Its intent is to invite children to experience God’s presence as real and gracious. In the Godly Play room, we offer core stories and liturgy of the Christian faith by telling stories and using materials especially designed for children to see, hear, and touch the stories, making them come alive.

Worship for Youth and Adults

Our worship services are open to all.  You can come as casual or as dressy as you want.  We have a traditional style of worship.  But within that tradition, our drama team, visual artists, and musicians try to keep things lively!  We celebrate the seasons of the Church and provide wide-ranging opportunities for congregational involvement.

Special and Seasonal Services (11 AM Worship)

We offer special and seasonal services throughout the year, especially during Advent and Lent.

Communion (11 AM Worship)

Communion is observed frequently throughout the year, typically every four to six weeks.
Waverly welcomes all believers in Jesus Christ to participate in communion.
